A congregation on Chaco Street

The Methodist Church of Aztec is a small church in Aztec, New Mexico. We sing. We keep a pantry. We leave the doors open for neighbors who need a meeting room.

Affiliation

We are a local Methodist church on Chaco Street. We are affiliated with the Global Methodist Church. Our shared mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and to spread scriptural holiness. The mark in the header is that affiliation; the story of this congregation stays first.

We watch over one another in love, keep a pantry, and leave the doors open for neighbors who need a meeting room.

The Wesleyan way of salvation

God’s love is for all people. Grace is God’s active help, from first awakening to life with God.

  • People sharing a meal outdoors at a church gathering

    Already at work

    God is already at work in every life, before we ask.

  • An open Bible, lit from above

    We turn

    Grace wakes us to our need and calls us to turn toward Christ.

  • Altar table, candles, and three crosses on the chancel wall

    Forgiven

    By faith in Jesus we are forgiven and made right with God — not by our own works.

  • The altar, wooden cross, and pews in the sanctuary

    Growing in love

    The Holy Spirit keeps cleansing the heart and growing us in holy love.

  • Stained glass with a dove, Alpha, and Omega

    Our hope

    Our hope is life with God, body and soul restored.

    Scripture

    The Old and New Testaments are our primary rule for faith and life.

  • Stained glass with a dove, Alpha, and Omega

    The Trinity

    There is one living God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • Altar table, candles, and three crosses on the chancel wall

    Jesus Christ

    Jesus is fully God and fully human. He died, rose, and will come again.

  • Stained-glass windows in the sanctuary

    The Holy Spirit

    The Spirit is God with us, giving life and power to love.

  • The congregation seated in the pews during worship

    Humanity

    We cannot save ourselves. We need the grace of God in Christ.

  • An open book with a pencil resting in the pages, photographed in the church

    Salvation

    We are made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by what we earn.

  • Sunday worship in the sanctuary, seen from the pews

    The Church

  • The sanctuary decorated for Christmas during worship

    Baptism and the Table

    Christ gave two sacraments: baptism (including children) and the Lord’s Supper.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

He ascended into heaven,

Is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic* church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body

and the life everlasting. Amen.

* catholic means universal

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his Kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

* catholic means universal
